Have you lived through the previous one in 2008? How was it ?
It was fine as for me, but would like to hear from others.
I was laid off from my first job out of college in 2001 when my employer lost a big customer that closed due to the downturn then. I was devastated, and worried about my future.
I was laid off in 2008 working for a small company that had to tighten it's belt in that recession. I was annoyed, but moved on.
And, I was laid off in 2014 when the company got bought out and the division I was working for was discontinued. I didn't like employment anymore and have been a scrappy entrepreneur ever since.
Wow thanks for telling your story.
I was a senior in college during the last one. There was a lot of fear among my classmates that they wouldn't be able to get jobs when they graduated. I knew I wanted to work for myself building Internet businesses, so I personally wasn't too worried. So long as I could make enough money somehow to pay for rent, groceries, and wifi, I could spend my time coding.
Lucky one ! 2008 was OK for me but 2000 wiped my first company I founded, I was not experienced enough - not very long after an engineering school :)
A different flavor decline too; being caused by a virus that's apparently not 'that' serious. Didn't see this with H1N1, Sars, etc. 🤷♂️ We'll probably see economic stimuli that bring about a slow recovery; like in 2008. Although, this is such a different type of hysteria that who knows. Though, I think once Q1 results come out and we see actual impact, it will probably dip down a bit again since a lot of economic activity has been put at a standstill.
I've been involved in finance professionaly in the past, so I follow economy from time to time, it's been one year I know insiders have been selling their stocks and DeutscheBank was like Europe Lehman's Brother bad shape. So the virus is rather the ...storytelling by Stockmarket ;)
