Done it in multiple occasions. Mostly had bad experiences - bottom line is, those people don't care about your projects and they can just choose to disappear. I would say that I had positive experience 2 out of 10 times.
My advice would be to spend as much time possible as you can getting to know those people and their habbits (so you know what to expect of them) and be 100% open with them when it comes to project requirements.
