Have you used offshore freelancers for lead-gen?

One of my passions has always been people, helping people learn, develop and grow in their career. My next venture to do this is Tairi (here on IH: https://www.indiehackers.com/product/tairi-co), helping freelancers from developing countries build & grow their skills and career. One of the obvious potential services we could do is Lead Generation.

For those of you in the field:

  • Have you ever made use of freelancers from developing countries in marketing / lead generation? If not, why not?
  • What was your experience?
  • What did you like? And what could be better?

Really appreciate any input you have!

I think the idea has legs, but competitive advantage against big companies like Toptal and Lemo.io?

On competitive advantage, this is a huge market (which also means there's huge potential). In such a market - there's always room for one more. Plus, I believe these two are really focusing on software developers, plus I know at least Toptal focuses on the best coders. My focus is much more on "softer" skills such as lead gen, customer support or backoffice ops.

Toptal is releasing marketing freelancers too! I would know, I just got approved as a product marketer.

So you have a dev staffing company? How do you vet your devs, and have you had clients so far?

Actually, I didn't want to go for devs, but more for "softer" skills, such as lead generation, customer support or backoffice operations. On the one hand, it means I need to vet the soft skills more than their hard skills, which I can do in an interview (I've done a lot of interviews already).
At this point, no clients yet - really working on that right now :)

Also you might want to consider offering training for those who are interested, because it seems to me these skills can be acquired on the job. ;)
