I’m Matthew. I'm a self-taught developer, and for the last year, I’ve been coding after my day job to get my first app off the ground.
It’s called BrainStorm AI, and I recently hit a massive milestone: the MVP is live, and we just got accepted into the Google for Startups program.
I built this completely out of necessity. I have an awful memory, especially during long meetings. I was paying a massive "productivity tax"—jumping between Zoom to talk, Otter to transcribe, and Notion to manage tasks. By the time I moved from one app to the other, the context was gone, and the cognitive load of staring at a blank to-do list was paralyzing.
I realized the neurodivergent community (and busy Project Managers) didn't need another generic text editor. They needed something that actually bridges the gap between talking and executing.
What I built: I developed a feature I call the "Librarian Mediator." It’s an in-app voice calling tool with a real-time AI mediator. If you tap the 'BrainStorm' button during a call, the AI instantly retrieves relevant "Insight Cards" from your past notes and pushes them to your screen so you don't lose your train of thought.
When you hang up, it doesn't just give you a transcript. It processes the conversation and automatically extracts a logical, 10-step actionable plan for whatever project you just discussed.
The Reality of the Solo Grind: Building real-time voice processing and AI task generation as a solo, self-taught dev while working full-time has been brutal. But getting that Google for Startups validation proved that solving my own pain point actually resonated with a much wider market.
My question for the community: My biggest hurdle right now is marketing .
When you are building a tool that requires users to change their daily habits (like how they take meeting notes), how do you get them to take a chance on a new app? Are you finding success with content marketing, cold outreach, or highly targeted Reddit ads?
Would love any advice from folks who have marketed complex workflow tools!
