Hello world :)

I have decided to use this platform as a journal because I have a lot going on in my life.

Most of it has to do with the fact that I have an agri-business that is doing unbelievably well, and I am not ready to give up on my career as a product designer.

Still, reading? Okay, here is the quick back story.

I have never been a top performer, but I have always been good at solving problems and Math. My mom convinced me to study Pure and Applied Maths at University. Everyone thought we were crazy or I wasn't going to pass (because I am a girl). Mom died, final year was tough but I made it. I graduated, started working a government job, discovered the world of tech - for the first time, tweeted about and landed myself a job in a tech startup-ish. 2 years later, I am a product lead, burned out, and I have hit the ceiling.

Caught up? Great.
About two weeks ago, I started working on my portfolio and started sending out job applications. I have heard back from some of the recruiters, and it's a no from them. I spoke to my current employer about it, turns out that there is a chance my application was not considered because of the university I am from.

I was torn up and angry. I felt like I was also not good enough for a job outside my country. I confided in a friend who reminded me that as Africans, we live in a bubble, and even though covid has created a leveled playing ground for us to get jobs in tech, we are still competing against others example, India and Nigerians.

It's been a really wild couple of weeks, but taking every day with a heart full of gratitude has helped me get my groove back.
