I'm getting dentists to donate PPE to hospital workers to protect them from COVID-19.
As you may know, there is a huge shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) incl N95 masks that protects healthcare workers from infection. 9% of COVID-19 cases in Italy are healthcare workers.
Dentists use PPE during routine dental care. But most dental offices are closed now. So I'm trying to encourage dentists to donate PPE to hospitals in need.
Two Bay Area dental societies are already helping with this (Santa Clara and San Mateo). A BuzzFeed reporter is working on a story.
But we need more dentists to donate. Dentists are struggling now (some are laying off employees) and PPE is expensive.
We want to provide social recognition to dentists who donate to provide a marketing boost to their practices.
Can anyone help with an app to 1) make it easy for people to ask their dentists to donate, 2) organize logistics -- where to drop off at hospitals, 3) verify drop offs and 4) celebrate dentists who step up?
Our doctors and nurses are the only thing standing between severe COVID-19 and death. They will be working long hours, exposed to high levels of virus, making tough choices around rationing care -- deciding who lives and who dies -- and in general be under tremendous physical and emotional stress. My brother is an ER doc, and I both deeply admire the work he is doing and fear for his safety.
We need to support our healthcare workers.
