Help me choose a monetization strategy for my project

Hi Indiehackers,

I recently posted my small mealprep recipe app (https://landing.mealpreplist.com) to the appropriate subreddit and it generated a nice response (second most upvoted post/7k user visits/~600 mailing list subscriptions.

I added some features from feedback, sent out an update email and now would like to try and validate the idea by earning money.

I would love to earn directly from users so I can avoid displaying ads or compromising features. My current plan is:

  • add a premium account for filtering of recipes by vegetarian/gluten free/freezer friendly and calories, displaying calorie/macro information in recipes and seeing and writing comments on recipes
  • price that account at 4$/months since I feel I have a limited offer (only ~30 recipe parts) and 5$ might be a new price point that drives users away
  • maybe offer a 10$ "supporter" tier without additional features for people who really like the product
  • I want to avoid yearly subscriptions since I want to be able to abandon the project if it does not work out

Do you think those are valid thoughts? Should I try to price it higher (or lower)? I eventually want to price it higher once I add more features, not sure how I can do that best, grandfather users in?

Any thoughts are appreciated, thank you!
