I need help invalidating this idea so I can avoid wasting my time. Would a marketplace for online fitness be viable? Personal trainers sell fitness packages (consisting of one or more videos of fitness routines) and people who are interested in learning fitness routines or trying new workout experiences pay a one-time fee for a fitness package . I'm almost certain there's a supply for such, but I'm trying to validate the existence of the demand side of the market. As someone who is perhaps interested in getting in better shape, is this something you'll be willing to pay for?
As a person who goes to gym and has a coach who plans workouts specifically for that day and that client based on many factors, I kinda laugh at those "fits-all" routines that online fitness and BB gurus sell. I know that I would never trust one, unless I want to show off for a while and then get injured.
A coach must be present and see you in action. And plan workouts specifically for you. So while there’s definitely a market for that, those aren’t particularly smart people buying those packages. You can cater to them, or you can cater to smart people who usually appear to have more money.
Valid point. I'm wondering if a bigger market behind the space can drive the creation of routines that cater to different demographics and fitness/health needs.
I've personally paid for online fitness coaching before but it was in the form of personalised recommendations via email / calls.
I know there's a huge market for it as many fitness IG'ers will show you.
I am possibly in the best shape of my life right now (though ironically super ill as I type this, hah). Still nowhere near where I want to be though, so it's a goal of mine in 2019.
Would I buy a program / course for fitness on a site like Udemy? No.
Would I pay for personalised help, even if I can' t meet someone in person? Yet.
I'd be super interested in 1-on-1 sessions with PT after I strain my ligament doing fitness/sports.
No idea about instructions/packages, since everything is already available on Youtube for free and I used that to great effect.
It's a valid point. Certainly allowing me to see things with a different lens.
I think there's a market, but I wonder how could it scale / have enough variety of offers.
I'm currently using https://www.freeletics.com/en/ and while it's not a personal coach I can see how they can adjust to many many types of people using it.
It start super easy and at the end of the workout they ask you: How was it? and you provide feedback (an slider that goes from "too easy" to "extremely hard") based on that they adjust the routine (I don't even think it's machine learning, a very basic set of rules would be enough) .
It's about $10 USD a month.
Thanks so much @OscarRyz. This is very insightful
