Hey guys so I've had this idea for so long to make a freelance website just like UpWork and Freelancer but one that solves all their issues that made so many people including me stop using them, I think I can do it programming wise and I know I can fix some of their major problems but that's a lot of work so should I go for it? Will I even be able to get noticed between these giants?
Cheers 👋♥️
What are the issues that you're focusing to solve? What's wrong with Upwork and other competitors?
The ammount of people on both sides of the table who complain about the big ones like freelancer and upwork are really big - so there might be a need.
The thing is, someone said this in a podcast somewhere, for every business problem there is some sweet spot of manpower which is needed to properly solve this. My guess is, solving "online freelancer work matching" can not be solved by a single individual. Just think about the technical part, the support, the marketing, legal stuff, payments, etc. Not ideal for a one-man-show...
If youre aiming to go big, you might want to start with a tiny tiny niche and be the perfect solution within that niche. Its easier to solve the chicken-egg-problem in a tiny niche rather than for everybody... Then you might get some funding and grow from there.
One last thing, the technical part is only 20% of the actual business in the end. Think of a printing machine. The part which actually prints the ink on the paper is tiny compared to the surrounding box, mechanics, displays, etc. Just think of "the upwork software" as beeing the ink pen in a big ass printing machine which surrounds it.
Most of the time I just tell anybody: "go for it, just start and try". But in this case I'd recommend to "start much much smaller". But yes, just starting will bring you many more opportunities and ideas along the way. Just tackling upwork directly makes no sense to me - my honest thoughts.
The "20%" is referring to
