Help needed: Vanilla PHP

I'm helping someone fix some issues with their website in hopes that I'll be able to get the ability to build future things for him.

The problem is that the current website is build in vanilla PHP and I'm not too familiar with it. I would pay for someone to help me setup debugging, logging, etc, which would equip me to build stuff quicker and simpler.

Anyone help would be greatly appreciated!!
