Here's how I am thinking about the upcoming recession

I believe that the worst time is when the most opportunities are. Great products and companies are built in bad economic times because you must be smart with the resources.

People usually don't like to take risks, especially in these times. But as Indie Hackers, we always take risks and look for opportunities. So it's a great time to build!

This is where the phrase "there's always a rainbow after the rain." I know recession is a bad and can be alarming, but we all have time to prepare for it. At the same time, let's always try to get something positive out of it.

At this point, there's nothing we can do but to hope, plan, and prepare.

Indeed.. it's a great time to build.

Another way of looking at it is what things will always be required even in a bad market. In our case, we make product management software. Even though markets are bad, we are increasing our growth week over week so far and we think it's going to continue as long as our offer provides the best value for our niche.

Good point on making sure you SURVIVE. For startups that churn a lot of $ that might be harder. But for bootstrapped founders, it's easier.

I think things can get easier for us vs. startup founders because many startup companies will cut on ad spending and make some acquisition channels that were previously unavailable to us be affordable again.

At the end of the day, if you believe enough in what you're doing, and you're running lean, keep going.

I keep reminding myself daily that some of those massively funded companies in my space are probably having to lay off staff and scrap some features from their backlogs.

    Keep grinding. Keep providing value.

Yes, very well said, that's my goal as well.

    Interesting read!

@ayush Do you think that indie hackers are better positioned to weather the recession because we're (mostly) focused on niches?

    1. 2

bootstrapped + niche is more stable and less explosive growth

i think the key to surviving the recession is streamlining spend , indie or not

Yea sort of, if we can limit expenses and really provide value to the niche. Mostly because we don't need as much money to sustainably run a business.
