Hey IH 👋 I built a native macOS app to monitor your home network

I’m Giovambattista, solo dev from Italy. I’ve been building macOS and web tools for years, and Netfox started from a simple frustration: every time I wanted to know what was on my network, the options were terrible.

The router admin page? A wall of MAC addresses with zero context. Vendor apps like Fing? Nice UI, but they want a cloud account and send your data who-knows-where. Terminal tools? Great for a one-off scan, useless for “was that device here yesterday?”

So I built what I wanted: a native macOS app that watches your network continuously, remembers everything, and tells you when something changes.

Overview

What Netfox does

  • Live device list — hostname, MAC, IP, vendor, online/offline. Five discovery methods running in parallel (Bonjour, ARP, SSDP, NetBIOS, ICMP).

  • Per-device history — first seen, last seen, every state change. Persists across launches.

  • One-click security scan — probes every device against common home-network ports. Each finding explained in plain English with a risk level and a fix.

  • Five kinds of alerts — new device, returning device, risky arrival, port opened, new service detected. Native macOS notifications.

  • Wi-Fi diagnostics — every nearby network with signal strength, channel, band, security.

Wi-Fi
  • Demo Mode — one shortcut masks all sensitive data for safe screenshots.

Everything is local. No cloud, no account, no telemetry. Built in SwiftUI, runs on Apple Silicon and Intel.

Alert History

Where it’s at

Netfox is at v0.3.2, free during the beta. It’s solid for daily use — I run it on my own network 24/7 — but still pre-1.0. Coming up: bandwidth monitoring per device, a menu bar agent, and expanded Wi-Fi diagnostics.

Why I’m posting here

I launched on Product Hunt recently and got good traction, but I want to connect with other indie builders. If you run a home network (you do), I’d love you to try it and tell me what works and what doesn’t.
