🚨Hey you, developer! (yes you!)

Hey! Sorry, missed your message.
No I haven't. My angle on this was to do something like Jing (retired project from TechSmith) or SnagIt, but for enterprises with data sensitivity.
I had in mind to do OCR on images and auto-redact some fields before the images are shared, etc and control how the images are hosted and shared.

My background is working for larger enterprises that are compliance driven, and companies like that have to vet vendors to make sure their own compliance is not compromised (companies that have SOC-2 like doing business with vendors that are also SOC-2)- if you're taking screenshots of anything around client data (e.g. support) or even just internal QA stuff, you shouldn't just be pasting images into comms channels or github PRs (because of how images are saved to the CDN). My thought was that I could circumvent getting SOC-2 myself by making this a self hosted product.

I abandoned the idea because the businesses I talked to weren't excited about the problem- it wasn't a "top 5 problem" for the directors of compliance that I spoke to, and in the end, I needed them to be the evangelist for the product to see it bought and put in place.

I think its possible the idea can work- I've witnessed the types of behaviours a product like this solves, but unless the organization sees and understands it as a burning problem, selling will be hard. If I were going to do something around this again, I would try to figure out how to target developers specifically and become the best developer or QA focused screencapture tool and figure out how to make those features I was thinking about serve developers better- that market seems more accessible.
