Hitting $300 MRR🎉

Hello everyone, I have dreamt of the day I will make a post on Indie Hackers, for years.

Today is that day.

I'm building learnly.dev, with 4 simple goals:

  • Teach software engineering in the easiest way possible. My students don't start with "hello world!", rather by learning problem-solving essentials needed to be a good programmer. Visualize -> Practice -> Repetition -> Next Section
  • Create a program that's in-depth, discussing how to do software engineering when you work on bigger projects and teams, and give my student the ability to be technology agnostic so they are able to make decisions based on the use cases.
  • Build with real users. I didn't want to go into my cave and come out with a program. I'm taking pilot users, whose progress I monitor and adjust the program as needed. This allows me to cater to problems and questions learners will face.
  • Make it affordable. On my homepage, you can find a list of the best free resources, but the Learnly program is paid. I went with the cost of 30 pop cans in my mind and did surveys with potential students to figure out the price that would be affordable. I'm charging $30 CAD/month, in return, my student's progress is personally monitored and they have availability to schedule calls with me if they get stuck.

The pilot program has been in progress for a couple of months, I'm using Twitter, Reddit, and other social media communities to get the word out, and it's growing!

Like any other platform, I had users who started out with high motivation and eventually stopped participating, don't let them pull you down. For my students, I actively reach out to them if they aren't active, and if it's been too long, I ask them to stop their subscription. It's not the best business strategy, but the goal is to help people, if it's not doing that, I can't have you wasting your money.

Today was the day I hit $300 MRR so wanted to share it with the wonderful people here that have been a source of motivation.

    This is a noble move.

It may cut into your revenue in the short run but what you gain from it is worth tenfold in the long run. 💪

For sure! Because at the end of the pilot program, if I don't have successful students it's not worth the couple of dollars I will get.

Congrats Zaid! Keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing and congrats on hitting $300 MRR!

Would you mind sharing the main marketing activities that got you to $300, and what your next goal is?

    1. 1

      Main marketing activities:

      • help new learners on Reddit
      • post about how Learnly can help under relevant popular tweets
      • write articles for beginners
      • now started facebook ads

Next goal is to make sure current students are keeping up and 4 digits MRR
