I’m looking at a tiny Search Console sample for an affordable-food map: 1 click and 156 impressions in the last 28 days. The homepage had 23 impressions at an average position of 12.7. A legacy Korean-food category URL had 22 impressions, the only click, but averaged position 62.9. The Busan city URL had 9 impressions at 42.4.
The technical baseline is healthy, so I’m treating this as a prioritization question rather than a crawl problem. Would you protect the homepage and add stronger internal paths, or deepen the Korean category page around actual affordable-meal intent?
My current leaning is to protect the homepage, add useful category copy and internal links, and clean up verified legacy URL drift. Success would mean Busan/place opens, directions clicks, or correction feedback—not more pages.
I run Fooglemap: https://fooglemap.com/place-city/busan/?utm_source=indiehackers&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=busan_first&utm_content=20260826_homepage_vs_category
Limit: coverage is incomplete, and prices/hours can change. AI-assisted draft, human-reviewed.
With a sample that small, I would not pick a winner between homepage and category yet. I would first make the Korean-food page answer the exact intent that produced the click, then add internal paths from the homepage only where they lead to a concrete action like opening a place or getting directions. If those actions stay flat, the ranking problem is probably not the first bottleneck.
