Homie: Family Productivity App (MVP Launch)

Hello Indie Hackers! 👋

As the creator of Homie, I wanted to share a little about the journey behind this app. It really started with the everyday frustrations many of us experience – those little moments that add up and cause unnecessary stress. For me, it was the endless password hunts in our family WhatsApp group, the frantic calls to my parents for important documents, and the constant live location sharing just to keep everyone feeling secure.

Whether it was remembering Wi-Fi passwords, digging for my parent's medical records, or trying to find that plumber's number my mom had mentioned weeks ago, our family's essential information was scattered across multiple apps, creating a cluttered digital life. It felt like we were using ten different tools to manage something that should feel seamless and connected.

That's where the idea for Homie sparked – a family's digital home. A single, private place to organize the things that matter most to a family. We wanted to build something that makes staying connected, organized, and secure feel effortless.

In our initial version (MVP), Homie brings you these core features:

Family Locator: Easily see where your loved ones are, all within a private family space.

Safe Vault: Securely store and share essential family documents, accessible whenever you need them.

Contact Directory: Create a shared list of important contacts, from emergency numbers to family doctors.

We believe Homie can truly simplify family life and boost productivity by bringing these essential functions together in one intuitive app. We're just getting started, and we're so excited to share Homie with you and hear your feedback as we continue to grow and add more helpful features.

You can learn more and stay updated on our journey at our website: Homie Website

I really liked it. Do you see Homie handling things like shared family calendars or group tasks in the future?

    1. 1

Yes, that's in the pipeline along with many other cool features. ✨

    Hello Rishabh,

I love the concept, and I think your description here is very compelling. I just joined IndieHackers with my company Fresh Eyes Tech and I am using it as an opportunity to test sites for free to give feedback, specifically on their websites (though apps are coming soon), focused on the US market. Going through the process on your website I noticed some inconsistencies in how you portray you product on the website with the actual product you describe in your markting, as well as some problems with the website layout. I would like to offer you a FREE mini review of your website (though I know its probably not the final product) If your interested, it would help me hone my skills and maybe give you some insight. Apperntly I am not allowed to post links yet since I am a newbie, but you can add a "com" to the end of my company name, and add a "joel" to the company name to get my email address. Thanks and best wishes!

Love the idea! Curious — what are the most common use scenario for this APP? Family insurance? Financial statement docs? or something else

      At the moment...
For Safe Vault: Any important documents, scanned bills, reports, certificates, etc.
On-demand location sharing with your close ones using Locator.
Shared contacts that are required by everyone & anyone.

Basically, use the way your family likes. Many more cool features coming soon.

Wishing you success with your project! Have you thought about crowdfunding as a way to secure funding and build your audience?

    1. 1

Thanks, I hadn't really thought in the direction of crowdfunding tbh.

What kind of security tests (pen test) have toy made to offer a feature to save important documents?

Also, how much would you charge for this app?

    Thanks :)

In order to keep things super secure at Homie, we built a 5-level security system for this, which includes:

      - OAuth + JWT validation
      - Family Member validation before accessing any data
      - Admin only read-write access to storage (no external request can access anything)
      - Encryption - decryption is performed during the upload and serving of documents or any sensitive data.
      - Limited validity of signed URLs for controlled and regulated access.

For now, the Homie app is completely free for our early users. 🚀
We believe in growing alongside our community and building trust first, and then we will introduce a subscription model when we deliver more value to our homies.

Would be happy to hear your suggestion 😇
