Horse Racing Odds API

The idea came about after I attempted to create a bot for matched betting purposes, which would essentially compare betting odds across different websites in order to guarantee a profit.

After speaking with like minded individuals who had attempted the same, it became apparent that no API was widely available at a cost acceptable for individual developers. This resulted in some developers attempting to scrape odds from websites, which became incredibly time consuming.

As a result, I’ve created my own API which provides odds at a much lower latency than anything I could find online. I have a working MVP and have just set up a landing page at https://tracehorse.io to determine if there is a market for this thing.

I would love any feedback you guys may have on my initial efforts. Thanks in advance!

For anyone still looking for something like this, I have recently launched a fully featured, affordable horse racing API with 12 years of historical results (200,000+) and live odds from 20 bookmakers.

If you search 'The Racing API' in google, it should be the top result.

Very interesting that you have made an API for this. I bet on horse racing on a daily basis using system generated selections from a third party, so I'm not your generalised gambler, it is a constant money earner over the past 3 years. I am in a group of around 300 people who use the same software and I think people in the group would look at using an API such as this, but it needs more data, as most of us who are in the group do not have access to all or any bookmakers due to our individual success, so we have to use exchanges, hence the bookmaker prices are not important to a lot of us. A lot, but not all of us in the group have software development skills.

If your API contained all of the statistical elements including results and form (it needs to be all of the form, not just the junk you see in standard racecards) then you would have a high level of success on selling this, as people who take horse racing betting seriously are always looking for an edge, plus allowing the user to have direct access to the data, as opposed to the software I currently use, would be a significant USP. Note, the results data is as important as future race data.

I would certainly be interested in using your API with the aforementioned additional data.

Thank you for taking the time to reply! With regards to exchange prices, it would definitely be possible to integrate both Betfair and Smarkets (I would need to look into Matchbook and BetDaq, however I feel these can come at a later time) for back and lay prices.

I was looking into incorporating specific data for each horse, and had even planned possible solutions for sourcing it, so it is definitely something I will research further. By all form, are you referring to all results for each race that a horse has run, as apposed to the last 5-8 races that typical websites cover?

Also, would you be prepared to provide me with an email to contact you with please? I would love to discuss this further with you, especially about what specific types of data you and other software users would find valuable, and see if I can help you guys out with your betting strategies.

      Thanks again!

Personally, the exchanges integration would not be a big benefit as a lot of us already use a bot to place bets with the exchanges using personalised configuration. But some other users would like it, as another market you could target is people interested in 'market movers' close to race start times.

Yes, by all form I mean results. When it comes to betting in a serious way, you need historical data to inform your decisions and to identify patterns of all types, not just directly related to the horse, but could be based on trainer, jockey, sire etc.. obtaining historical data as I understand it is not difficult, the difficulty may be on your side the query time/data side as people will run 'systems' over a period of up to 5 years in the past.

My dad is a huge horse racing person. He bets all the tracks around the country. I’d be happy to set up a phone call. Is this targeted towards consumers or is this B2B2C?

That would be great, thanks! (or I can drop him an email if that's easier?) Do you reckon this would be something he would use? I'm also looking to add extra data such as form, jockey, days since last race etc.

The API is currently aimed at developers, but I don't see why B2B sales can't be made as well.
