How 2 hours changed 1 year of work

Hello Hackers,

Usually, I don't post a lot about my project progress.
Something good happened to me yesterday and I want to share it with you now.

I started to work on my personal fitness app in late February 2019.
At this time, I wanted to create an app to track my workouts without specific business model in mind. So I started.
Today, the app is available on Android but still not iOS.

So why yesterday was so important?

  • I had an interview with a personal trainer who gave me a professional feedback
  • I had an immediate feedback about the good value I can bring to the personal trainer community
  • A lot of my ideas have been validated. Others needs improvements.
  • In 2 hours, I learnt more about what people need than in 1 year.

What will I do?

  • Interview more personal trainers to get more valuable feedback
  • Based my work on the need and not on what I think is the need (validating the need before further development)
  • Communicate more about the project and ideas coming up

Goal for next month:

  • Adapt the app and the personal trainer portal to provide better value to personal trainers and their clients
  • Finish the meal planner feature
  • Publish the app on iOS ( now waiting for ram extension to run emulators on my mac)

Enjoy your Sunday!

Seems obvious right? Took me a decade to learn this is a good thing to do :-)

Well done! You should do more of the interviews with the target audience. The startup school course mentions that in one of their first videos that you should be talking to users daily.

I can't recommend enough a book The Mom Test which explains how to structure those interviews and what questions to ask.
