How a 4500-word technical guide drove 60% of our B2B pawnshop leads in Q1

Quick share for fellow B2B founders: long-form technical content still works in 2026 if you nail the niche.

Background: We make XRF gold analyzers for pawnshops. Tiny B2B niche, ~3K shops in the US that are realistic buyers. Our 2025 SEO strategy was 8-10 product pages + thin blog content. Result: 12 leads/month.

In Q1 2026 we shifted to a "pillar + cluster" model:

→ 1 pillar page (5,000 words on pawnshop XRF buying)
→ 4 cluster articles (4,000+ words each on specific subtopics)

Latest cluster — a guide on XRF counterfeit detection covering the 30 µm penetration limit nobody else discusses:

Why
it works:
- Pawnshop owners Google very specific operational questions ("can XRF detect tungsten")
- AI Overviews prefer long technical guides over thin blog posts
- 4-step HowTo schema + 12-question FAQPage schema gets us featured in AI summaries

Result so far: organic search traffic 3.2x, SQLs from organic up 4x. Content compounds.

Anyone else doing pillar+cluster in B2B niches? Curious what your conversion rates look like vs ad-driven.
