How a creative Google ad got an investor's attention

This is a neat story. And something any IH'er could tweak and replicate for another investor. But the broader lesson I got was how valuable a dash of creativity can be. In this instance, it results in:

    • Possible investment
    • A tweet from Ryan Hoover
    • An article and backlink from Tech Crunch.

There's founders who grind for years to try and get one of those three things. And it takes the founder of Tadabase just half an hour setting up Google ads ...

It doesn't help much to say, “Creativity is valuable ...” because it's not something you can just turn on and turn off. It's a muscle you've got train. And if you don't take any risks in your marketing for a year or so that muscle wastes away ...

So, I'm setting myself a target of one bit of creative marketing every two months (in amongst a lot of slow, and steady, consistent stuff) ... It's the barbell approach:

Majority EXTREMELY SAFE . Occasional EXTREMELY RISKY (creative). Avoid the shades of grey in the middle.

Most of the time your creative stuff will go unnoticed. But when it works you'll get two months worth of users in a day. Or an article in Tech Crunch. Like Moe Levine. Watch this space.

Solid advice. But I really want to place a go pro on your head to understand how you constantly find good stuff. You're a fucking journalist Harry.
