How a group of marketers built a platform to discover and submit AI prompts

So, we’re a team of 10+ marketers at Mailmodo, and this is about how we built our latest passion project - Prompt Hunt by Mailmodo

Primarily a library of 250+ AI prompts about SEO, content, email, and product marketing, Prompt Hunt facilitates users' submission and rating of AI prompts. This way, it provides a unified platform for marketers to share and validate their prompts and gain recognition for their expertise in AI.

What led Mailmodo to build Prompt Hunt?

Our initial tryst with ChatGPT left us bemused. We spent hours writing prompts and getting mediocre results. The reason why this tool was getting so much hype was beyond us.

The internet, however, kept telling us that the prompts were the key. So, our team started attending workshops and finding emerging marketing experts in AI to learn the art of writing good ChatGPT prompts.

Soon enough, we found many blogs, workshops, Youtube videos, and even social media posts about mastering prompt engineering, but this information was scattered all over the internet.

Marketers are already pressured to upskill quickly, and spending more bandwidth on experimenting with amateur prompts and scouting the internet wouldn’t help them.

Our community needed a common platform to share, validate, and explore AI prompts, and since there was none, we decided to build it.

The real BTS of Prompt Hunt

The preparation phase
After we locked down the initial idea of building a library, we wanted it to be a completely user-led platform where we’d only need to moderate. We wanted users to sort prompts based on use cases, copy or use them directly on different AI tools, and make their submissions.

When it came to the UI, Product Hunt, and Google Search feed were our major inspirations. We wanted the library to show top contributors, include search functionalities, segregate prompts based on ratings and relevance, and allow users to rate others’ prompts just like Product Hunt.

Our designers created the template, and our dev team executed the design in a week.

How we collected the prompts?
Our team put out requests on sites like HARO, HAB2B, Social media, and AI communities. We even found people who were posting AI prompts on Twitter and LinkedIn and reached out to them to share their prompts.

We even sent out an email blast to all our subscribers using Mailmodo. The email was an interactive form so that recipients could submit their forms without leaving their inboxes.

Through all our initial efforts, we got an affirmative response from over 100 respondents and collected more than 200 prompts.

We also went through all the blogs and social media profiles of famous marketers to include their prompts with due credit.

How did we spread the word?
We started making noise about Prompt Hunt weeks before it got launched. Mailmodo’s founder has a good LinkedIn following, and we posted from his account to get more submissions.

Moreover, the respondents who agreed to participate in Prompt Hunt were already eager for the launch.

The final launch
We launched on June 13, 2023, on Product Hunt, garnered over 300 upvotes, and featured among the top 10 products of the day. Since then, we’ve got multiple submissions for prompts on the platform, and many creators have given us a shoutout.

The impact
We got more than 2K visitors on the day of the launch itself, and the appreciation is still pouring in. Unexpectedly, Prompt Hunt has also been getting us 3 sign-ups daily at Mailmodo. Check out some of the appreciation below

The future plans
We’re already working on rolling out individual contributor pages to recognize marketers who are learning AI and sharing their expertise, and introduce them to the community.

In the future, we hope to make Prompt Hunt a go-to resource for all marketers looking to learn prompt engineering and make ChatGPT a part of their daily workflow.

While the marketing team at Mailmodo is busy scaling Prompt Hunt, the product team is also introducing AI-driven features like AI-generated email templates, copies, subject lines, and more, enabling the adoption of AI by email marketers at grassroots.
