A few days ago we've sent an email update to over 12,000 people, mostly who signed up to our product a while back but didn't stick around.
The header of the email looked like this:

Everything seems in order, right? well... yea but apart from the fact that everyone was addressed with someone's else name π€¦π»ββοΈ
Long story short, the email used a different name instead of the actual name of the person.
Minutes after hitting the SEND button my inbox flooded with replies full of confusion asking who John, or Jenny, or Alejandro, or Ahmad, or Laura was....
That's when I realised what I've done... My posture went all solid, my eyes turned wide open and my hair stood right up! - I went into panic mode and tried to stop the remaining emails from being sent, but I was too late... All I could think of doing at that time was replying to everyone and tell them that it was a mistake and that none of their data was comprised.
Not long after emails started to calm down but then our live-chat requests went up! People flooding in asking about the product, how to get started and to extend their trials... We actually made sales! annnnd a lot of them.

But why? We've been sending email updates for the last 3 months in an attempt to get people to check us out again, but nothing really worked "great" up until they received an email that wasn't addressed to them π€
Well... It turns out it wasn't really about the "email", it was about the fact that Plutio become "the talk of the day". Some were even gutted they didn't get an email and missed out on having a new name π

This is hilarious π
Good for you that it generate sales at the end :)

Some mistakes are actually blessing in disguise... π
