When I say repeated, I mean after you make some changes in maybe 2-4 weeks span. Of course, no community would like to be spammed.
I've done posting before and gained some audience. The situation was good becasue it didn't take off my time doing a heavy promotion.
But, those channels feel like one-off promotion. Users slowly fade away (pre-product market fit). At the same time, I think it's too early to go into social media marketing since that takes away too much time.
My ideal would be this cycle:
Have you done repeat posting your products at those threads? How often?
I would imagine you can repeat on all those channels with big updates. I've seen people do a webapp a day challenge and post them everyday. Just be upfront that you made the changes people mentioned and post it again. Just you posting your same site over and over again would be where you'd get flagged.
Uh ok! Be more opened in communication.. I'm starting to notice, spamming is a very relative term. Copy/pasting links, automation would be annoying, but if you're clear of your intention, it'd be ok (or maybe even appreciated?) in that related community.
exactly, just posting your link over and over again would be spammy. But engaging with people and starting a conversation regarding what you are doing is much less so.
Makes sense, thanks jeremy! I think I'm lacking this community mindset. Good old participation mark in university class, I should have paid attention more!
I was wondering about this exactly too. So far I haven't found a hard and fast rule to this but it definitely feels like the "initial" launch carries the most weight. It'd be great to figure out the etiquette regarding repeated promotion on those channels so we could build a more sustainable marketing strategy
I found this helpful video by YCombinator. It talks about scheduling product launch date periodically. She doesn't talk about crystal rules, but talk about some other startup examples. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xU050kMbHM&
