Hi, my name is Frankie, and I’m a founder with ADHD. I’ve been building Breadcrumbs for the last 2 years and considering pivoting to ScatterMind, where we help founders with ADHD avoid burnout by building healthy habits. While building my first startup, I realized staying organized and prioritizing my health helped me the most in avoiding burning out and, ultimately, keeping my company alive. Below are some of my challenges and solutions.
Regularly, I was fighting off self-doubt, exhaustion, lack of motivation, and stress. Very quickly, I learned that I couldn’t get rid of these feelings, but there were tools to fend them off. In short, be healthy every day: workout, eat healthily, relax and get 8 hours of sleep. When I was tired and running on fumes, stress built easier, my focus dwindled, the hard things were more challenging, and I didn’t have the energy to defend myself from my thoughts. I understood health is essential, but I was struggling to prioritize it.
The first thing I did was rank my priorities. Here are my priorities:
When I revisited my priorities, I realized that my actions didn’t reflect my priorities. I was putting all my energy into my career and not following my priorities. I’d
At first, this seemed pretty minor to me, but I realized if I’m doing it every day; eventually, it catches up. I’d have amazing weeks because I’d put so many hours in, but the next week, I’d be exhausted and wouldn’t get anything done because I hadn’t slept. I believe consistent flow is always better than variable flow. Pro athletes don’t push themselves to their limits every day. Otherwise, they risk injury. They focus more on consistency.
The second thing I did was build a daily routine reflecting my priorities. Instead of filling my schedule with work tasks and then squeezing in my health tasks, I did the inverse. I filled in all my health tasks first and the rest with work tasks. My routine ensured that my highest priority items were getting done daily. The essential tasks that I planned my day around are
Here's my daily routine! All the white space is open for work and any other tasks. My routine reduces the time it would take me to plan my day. A routine might not be for everyone, especially if you’re not full-time. Hopefully, this provides some ideas on managing your health better and avoiding burnout. If you’re a founder with ADHD and need help avoiding burnout or staying organized, check us out here! I'd love to hear how others maintain their health and avoid burnout!
PS: I also go to therapy monthly but wanted to focus on daily tasks.
Thanks for sharing

It really does catch up! Easy to skip those things but you pay for it later
Exactly! 1 day becomes a week, a week becomes a month, and so on. How do you ensure you're sticking to your plan?
I try to be pretty disciplined daily but the key for me is to recognize when I need to take a break from that and not beat myself up about taking breaks.
Are there any ways you measure this or do you mostly go on feeling?
Based on feeling and a general understanding of my energy levels and what boosts my or drains my energy
This is such a great post! Consistency is truly so hard, even when it comes to things that we mean to be priorities. But there's no substitute for it.
I've had trouble with routines but this is going in the ole inspiration bank. Like, look! When you do it right, it works 😂
Also, was checking out ScatterMind (love what you're doing, sincerely — would love to help if I can!!) and wanted to let you know the Apply links on your about page are busted!
Thank you so much! I updated them!
I'm validating the idea right now, so I'll keep you posted. If you have good places to market or any other feedback, that would be super helpful.
Course, no problem! And definitely, I'll take a closer look and think on it. Be back here with a reply soon haha
As a startup founder, burnout is something I have to fight on daily basis. Trying to be better and would definitely try to improve my daily routine.
How are you building a new routine?
Some ways to stay healthy and avoid burnout include getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, getting regular exercise, taking breaks and vacations, setting boundaries, and engaging in activities that you enjoy. It is also important to manage stress and find healthy ways to cope with challenges. It can be helpful to talk to a mental health professional if you are feeling overwhelmed or struggling to manage stress.

I know this will be delegitimizing a lot of people's suffering, but burnout isn't real.
Burnout only happens when your efforts are not yielding the results or outcomes that you want.
Otherwise just taking the weekends off alone will allow you to go on for years.
Burnout comes from disappointment, not from exhaustion.
Oh damn! This is an interesting take and you got me thinking. So, you can't burnout even when you're doing well and things are going great? What would you call people who do well at work, but they're always tired/unhealthy cuz they're overworked?
They're just exhausted.
Burnout is when you start to dread work and can't even touch your laptop anymore, because you're so allergic and phobic to your efforts not translating into the results you want.
Oh wow! Hmm, that sounds pretty reasonable. What do other people think?
Any thoughts on how I can better capture that on my landing page?
just want to be here to encouage more founders that: you are not alone!
I find that exercise is my silver bullet to keep me both healthy and productive. I see it as some ME time. I don't know for you, but my ADHD brain hates the word discipline... I try to convince it to do things because it's time to do it and I just don't negotiate with myself and just get to it. For example, if today is a running day, I just get up, dress, put the running shoes on and leave the house.... no negotiation with myself... (no inner dialogue, do I have time, am I too tired...etc).
Meditation is another very interesting one for me. I do guided meditation with some suggestion... I like Joe Dispenza morning and evening meditations... But I will trade meditation for sleep if time is an issue... Sleep, at least 8 hours is a must for me.
Not sure to understand how Scattermind works though. Accountability buddy? Is it a real person or just the app? Where do the rewards come from?
Interesting concept.... how do you differentiate from a to do app?
I used to hate the word discipline, but I think it's super key for me. I struggled so much with consistency and using my time wisely. By having a routine, all my time has direction, so I'm not getting lost in thought. It sounds like you already beat that challenge.
Thanks for all your thoughts! That helped me capture feedback. I need to change the subheader. It's an app, and my game plan is you'd wager your own money, and if you beat your goal, you receive a reward with the money from other users. My theory is you need the fear of loss to motivate you to meet your goal, and you receive more money when you go above and beyond.
I believe the accountability system is the critical piece here. There are many to-do list apps, and the accountability system gets you to do work and go above your goal.
Thoughts? Any chance I could reach out to you to chat more?
