How are you using growth loops to grow your user base?

You want to grow the user base of your product but there is one major problem: you are not growing fast enough.

Earlier, this was less of a problem but you have an uphill battle of maintaining churn rates.

While you can always improving your product, you also realize that you must contend with churn rates.

Besides contending with increasing churn rates, there are other problems of not growing fast enough.

  • Wasting Time with Linear Growth: Linear growth is that each day, your total number of users doubles. It’s not bad when you are launching a MVP. However, what if you want to onboard more users faster? What if you want a hockey stick growth curve? That is exponential growth which helps you get more users faster. Focusing on finding what exponentially works helps you get more users for hour product.

  • Your Competitors Steal Your (Would-Be) Users: When you are not focusing on exponential growth but your competitors are, then it is a matter of time before your would-be users are taken by your competitors. Naturally, you want to onboard your users so that your product can be top-of-mind for your end users.

  • You Can be Building Your Product in Other Ways: Other times, you are directly prospecting each potential user when the price of your product does not justify prospecting as a method for user acquisition. The time that you are spending chasing each potential user can be better allocated to developing a new core feature of your product or establishing joint ventures that expand your product’s reach.

So, how are you supposed to trigger exponential growth?

One solution is to use growth loops that are naturally built-into your product.

Growth loops are cyclical built-in use scenarios that your end users use while driving more users into your user base.

For example, WhatsApp uses SMS invites to get more users into using its private messaging app.

Dropbox offers free (extra) storage to acquire more users.

Growth loops drive your users to promote your product.

If you need ideas on how to build in growth loops, here are 4-5 growth loops that you can use to build into your product:

  • Incentivize More Free “Premium” Use: Earlier, we mentioned that you can incentivize your end product to drove more users with the Dropbox example. Maybe, you have a well-received Premium feature that you can use to drive more users into buying from you. You can incentivize your current user base to refer a paid user so that they can get access to more “premium” features.

  • Leverage Affiliate Marketing: Instead of offering paid features for free for referrals, you can share commissions with your affiliate base. This is more effective when your monthly pricing being around $20-$100 because it is just easier to onboard with lower price points.

  • Build Internal Networks within Your Product: You have a product where the use case is to share with their team. This can be an agile project management board or an async communication platform. ClickUp and Asana are great at leveraging internal networks to share their product within. of you are building a SaaS for internal team use, this is a great way to generate more users for your user base.

  • Share the Love: Another growth loop that you can use is that you get more users to use your product because it was shared with them. Loom is infamous for using this as their growth loop. You can use this growth loop of you have a shareable product.

  • Subtle Promotion: Another growth loop that you can use is that you can subtly promote your SaaS to other users - especially if your end users are on are on a free plan. This way, instead of just taking up space, you can ise your free user base as a promotional ground to get more end users.

To recap, linear growth is great when you are starting put but it can be a choking bottleneck when you want to scale.

This is why exponential growth is key to growing the amount of users for your product.

By building in growth loops naturally into your products, you can leverage your user base to reach put to then-exclusive third-party networks.

Hi. Good read, I must say!
Well, I am using a variety of growth loops to grow my user base. Firstly, I offer a referral program that gives users a reward for each new user they refer. This has been a very effective way to grow my user base, as users are more likely to share a product or service with their friends and family if they know they will be rewarded for doing so. Secondly, I am active on social media and I regularly share content that is relevant to my target audience. This helps to raise awareness of my product and attract new users. Thirdly, I create high-quality content that is relevant to my target audience. This content helps to position me as an expert in my field and attracts new users who are looking for information or solutions to their problems. And lastly, I use paid advertising to reach a wider audience and drive traffic to my website. I use a variety of targeting options to ensure that my ads are seen by people who are likely to be interested in my product.
These are just a few of the growth loops that I am using to grow my user base. I am constantly experimenting with new strategies and I am always looking for ways to improve my results.
