Hi Indie Hackers
I’m just curious to know what your growth goals are.
Is your goal to become the next Zoom or are you aiming for something smaller?
I know this is kind of small beans, but my first goal is $1. I've been making free projects for a long time, but the one I'm currently working on is a SaaS product that I'm hoping I can convince to pay $23/month.
1st Goal ---- $1.00
2nd Goal --- $23.00
3rd Goal --- $100/MRR
Right there with you! I've made free and "paid" (only added payments to one recent app) apps over the last 6 years. Still waiting on that $1 ;-)
Keep going, Andrew! You'll get there :)
Not small at all! Everyone has different goals. Thanks for sharing Mikaal :)
My goal for this year is $1m revenue, which seems almost impossible (last year was something like $10k), but I think it can be done. Plus it's always good to aim higher.
Yes, I also believe in aiming higher! Thanks for sharing Cristian :)
I think a very useful saying here is, "Think big. Start small. Act now."
All 3 fragments of this adage will depend on where you are in the process.
In my case, my immediate goal is to finalize the acq of a startup and move on to the next problem I want to deal with/solve.
Acting now is so important Vedran! Thanks for sharing :)
I came here to say this!
Don't worry about building a $1mm business when you haven't made a dollar yet. Just enjoy each step and grow until it's not fun any more.
My current goal is to double revenue to $5k/mo. The next goal will be something equally achievable yet meaningful. I'm just taking it one step at a time.
That's a good point, Karl. It's easy to get caught up in the rabbit hole of thinking too much into the future. Thanks for sharing :)
Good point Karl! 🙏
I’m very intrinsically motivated. My goal is creative freedom. I’d like for it to get big enough that I can subsist without working on it full time. Of course, I enjoy working on it — but I also enjoy drawing, making music, making games. I’d like to get my business to a place where I’m flexible enough to create whatever I want for the fun of it.
Yes to creative freedom 🙌🏾 I'm motivated by this too. Thanks for sharing Jake :)
My goal for now is to get my first paying customer. after that start growing to reach 5k MRR
Same here ... at the moment I’m at $70 MRR
Great job scoring paying customers Navin :)
Awesome! Keep going and you'll get there Jamal :)
Very motivating question! I'd like to get big enough to where I can employ the local community in my own neighborhood and not have to move to "the valley" despite the great weather. An eventual $1M/MRR wouldn't hurt. Just have to keep my head down and hustle.
Nice! Keep hustling and you'll get there Frederick :)
I would like it to be as big as ebay :-)
Wow! I love this! Dreaming big. Thanks for sharing @sbz :)
My immediate goal is for my company to make enough money to pay my bills.
After that, I want to stay intentionally small. It means I don't have to spend time managing other people, and it allows me to provide a personal touch to my customers.
Also, there's a lot of things I want to do in life, like traveling, spending time with friends/family, hobbies, etc. My ultimate goal in life is for my business to provide me maximum freedom and sustain me in doing whatever I want to do.
I have similar goals, Richard! Thanks for sharing :)
👊 you can do it bro
With melbado I simply want to make so much that I have enough resources to be able to develop & test new ideas all my life.
It's what I love doing :)
Awesome! Thanks for sharing @whereismypen :)
I think it's more practical to set small goals, and think about bigger ones when you first accomplish small.
Personally I would be satisfied if I get:
I'm not thinking ahead of step three yet :)
Awesome! I love that you're focusing on net revenue. Thanks for sharing Victor :)
After our quite relaxed relaunch of zubbit.io, we had a couple of months ago I would like to build this up now to at least $10k per month and after that, I guess the target will be the magic $1 million per year :-)
My goal is to eventually get to $1000 MRR with https://amicu.app as I don't think it's sustainable otherwise.
But the next step would be around $150 MRR to cover costs.
I personally think of this not in terms of revenue, but in terms of team size. As a general, long-term goal, I'd like to be at place where the business was generating enough revenue to sustain 6-8 people full time, without putting too much pressure/strain on those 6-8 people.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Oz :)
@Zviko I love this question because it's all too often assumed that everyone wants to be huge. Although there are certain advantages to growing into "the next Zoom/Slack/etc," the business model changes a lot.
Personally, I just want to create something that adds value and creates recurring revenue that could replace our services-based business. That would mean $100,000/MRR, which is a way into the future (we're aiming for 3 years), but do-able.
What about you?
I have a similar goal, Tara! I know there's a stigma around building lifestyle businesses, but that sounds perfect to me. I want freedom of location, freedom of time and creative freedom. Thanks for sharing :)
I'm actually aiming to make my website one of the top #3 websites when it comes to coupons & deals in the MENA region (middle east & north africa) .
For the goal of this year, I wanna make it reach 50 000 users /month by the end of this year !
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Moad :)
I don’t want to measure the size of ux-peers.com by revenue or team members. For me the goal is to bring value to as many ux designers as possible. Everything else is just a result of that.
First step would be to get to 100 members on the platform.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Marvin :)
An income to buy a new car and an apartment.
Nice! An apartment would be awesome. Thanks for sharing Bruno :)
I would like to aim at first 100 paying customers by the end of this year and then lets see what happens.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Nitin :)
my goal is $700 revenue, not MRR or profit, just plain revenue.
I need validation for my self to defeat imposter syndrom.
Ahh...imposter syndrome is a problem for me too. Keep going Irfan! Thanks for sharing :)
My ultimate goal is to generate R$ 20k (Brazilian currency) of monthly net revenue.
After reaching this level, the goal will no longer be to grow in profit, but, totally, in the experience and quality of the service.
I believe that with this, the cost of the service can be reduced by two factors:
1 - The greater the number of customers, the lower the cost of the service to the customer, and the apportionment of costs will be broader.
2 - End of customer acquisition costs (ads).
This is my overall goal for my personal project.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Evandro :)
I googled Zoom's revenue... they are at USD 622 million in 2019
I don't think most users here are aiming that high, it would be nice though, but most users here would love a decent income, not too low, not too high, some comfort zone, they'd be happy already.
So somewhere between 5k to 10k, for me a 5k MRR would be awesome... and currently at $70 MRR lol
You never know Navin! Everyone has different goals. Thanks for sharing :)
I want to be generating life-sustaining income from my products every minute for the rest of my life. Just for the achievement, not because I care about money.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Blake :)
As much as possible until I hit the law of diminishing returns.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing @indiegogo :)
Overall goal: Make enough to live with the same amount of money I get from my full time job but also grow it.
Short-term goals:
#1 Make $1 MRR
#2 Get to $100 MRR
#3 Get to $1000 MRR
When I reach this point I should get to my long-term goal I think
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Kevin :)
Big enough to be a respectable entity. Small enough to be able to know everybody personally.
Aside; I personally have the goal to (be able to) work the least amount of possible, while still being able to provide for myself. It's not that I don't like work, but there is no absolute maximum in the amount you can earn, while there is an absolute minimum to the amount of time you can work. I just don't feel like losing my soul to money.
I have similar goals! Thanks for sharing Corstian :)
Staying small & keep creating is what my goal is.
My thoughts resonate with @pjrvs (Company of One)

I'm currently reading this book. It's been a game-changer for me. Thanks for sharing Shree :)
My goal is to make as much MRR as I can without having to grow the company. I want to do this alone.
Another 'company of one' fan! Thanks for sharing Rik :)
My goal is to have a business that makes me so much money as my current job is paying. Then I want to focus to make that income as passive as possible, so I’m free to spend my time on other things: family, travel and the next business...
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Vladimir :)

Of course more will be better :). I looked at the questions from the perspective of when I will be really happy with my project. My current job pays quite well, so reaching that level of income passively will be a total success. Everything more than that is a bonus.
$64,950 MRR then attack next market and grow bigger
Awesome! Thanks for sharing Matthias :)
Personally I like small and simple.
I prefer to diversify and build a small number of products & services that only require some attention rather than run a large company that would take up most of my time.
Me too Michal! Thanks for sharing :)
