I first opened my company about 1 and a half years ago. I had no idea how accounting related tasks would end up stressing me out so much. Every month I had to gather all my invoices from email, which meant filtering them, then saving invoice + receipt for something like 10-20( at least) subscriptions or orders. I started procrastinating this badly, I knew the time of the month would come and I would just get anxious about it. So finally, in December 2025 I decided to build BillyBox, first as a prototype for myself. Then I realised there must be others facing the same problem, I looked for other solutions online but they were either expensive( even credits based), not doing a good job with extraction, or just didn't generally give me any sense of clarity. I built BillyBox trying to make the process as smooth and fast and possible, you fetch invoices by month, you can classify them as business and personal( as some, like me, use the same email inbox for both), then export as zip ready to send over to accountant. I also made it able to support multiple invoices and extract the fields in the invoices so that a csv could be found in the export zip as well with these. I'm honestly quite happy to have reduced my anxiety regarding this to 0.01%.
Where is it now? It actually got its first customer about 15 days ago, for which I had to fix outlook connections and managed to do it pretty much overnight. I've also had my first support call with a potential customer for which I helped set everything up. Another, my first user, complained the extraction was bad so I completely rewrote it to use AI instead of rules.
Now I'm trying to figure out marketing and distribution. I've realised having a very well functioning and useful product is only half the battle and I'm trying to come to terms with that.
