How can I get started on Twitter?

Hey Austin,

welcome on Twitter! Here is a good way to grow:

Follow a number of interesting people and start replying to them. Offer your own point of view, or add other forms of value. Start genuine conversations with a reply.

Then, make a Twitter list of big accounts with lots of followers, but only accounts that your possible customers might be interested in. Start replying to those accounts as well, so that your possible customers (who follow the big account) will begin to see your tweets and follow you as well.

Over time, you'll build a nice bunch of followers. Once you've got 100 or 200, you can start to tweet your own stuff and get heard. Before that, it does not make a lot of sense because there are too few people who see it.

So, the "reply" button is your friend. 😄

Twitter threads are great for sharing knowledge in a long form manner

I've seen people/organizations hosting Twitter interview spaces

Here is what I will do if you are starting:

Create a list of interesting 10 people.
Find the time when they post
Comment as soon as they tweet
Quote tweet 2-3 tweets per day
1-200 Twitter followers, I would tweet 1-2 times per day and write 1 thread per week.
Position Yourself
Build a Newsletter even if it is your first day
Find and network 7-10 interesting people (this person shouldn't have to be sharing the same topic as you) but go with personal brands rather than pages.
If you have a skill, offer them free.
DM interesting people, but don't just say "Hi" and wait for their replies.

Biggest one is being consistent.

If you can push out content every day and make tweet threads every day, that's great. But not all of us are creators, and we might be busy with other aspects of our startups, so it's better to put in a little work every day being consistent rather than one big block for the week and be done with it.

Usually, I follow a bunch of relevant accounts (AI related) and then interact with them earnestly.

I'd say most important thing is consistency and engagement, reply to tweets, comment other people tweets, like, share etc on a consistent base.

To find people who could be interested in your SaaS, you can go to big Twitter account of company/SaaS selling service(s) to people from the same niche as you targeting and follow their followers. Like, if you want to sell apple accessories for iPhone, there's chance that people following twitter Apple account are interested in your product.

Twitter communities can also be very powerful, there is plenty of group with hundreds of people interested in different fields, SEO, SaaS, Indie Hacking, AI, Build in public etc where you can connect with people & promote your work when it is allowed :)

I have almost 7,000 followers on twitter and run 2 SaaS companies...

It depends on what you are selling... B2B sales is rather challenging on Twitter. Knowing what I know now... I would tell you NOT to expect a dollar to come out of Twitter.

BUT... I have been able to meet a LOT of awesome people... So I think it is worth it.

I have found interacting with different people or products on Twitter boosts your visibility.

The approach to daily/frequently post there will not work out initially. You need to interact with different users.

Also another approach is to use relevant hashtags as per your niche. That gets you the most visibility!

You just need to start without any huge expectations. Be consistent and keep tweeting with relevant hashtags... sooner or later your profile will gain the momentum. Thats what I am doing and it just takes a few seconds to post an update about the product. If it does not benefit, it also does not harm.

I have been trying since november and went from 0 to 160 followers in 3 months. I did some posting (#buildinpublic), a lot of commenting, and it took probably 5-10 hours/week. However, I think it is not worth for me and 3 months were enough. First of all, indiehackers is not my target group. Second, I tried to help lot of people, but people there don't want to get/give any help from/to little accounts like mine. Most of new and active profiles on twitter just want to grow, which I can understand, but cannot see the value behind them.
