Hi everyone 😊 I recently launched howtobrandyou.com based on a brand voice exercise I've found effective with design clients.
I made the quiz & parts of the report free, but some of it is behind a paywall. I'm wondering how I make the full report more worth the $15 for people trying to define their brand voice?
Here is an example full report: https://howtobrandyou.com/report/apple
(Free report example: https://howtobrandyou.com/report/how-to-brand-you)
Ideas I already have are some kind of graph that shows where your voice is on various spectrums, and analysis of brands that have your same archetype. I know I'm biased towards design solutions (what would help me design a visual brand identity for a client) so I'm interested in hearing from bootstrappers, copywriters, others.
Let me know if you have any tips or questions! Thanks.
Make it a product consumers cant imagine living without - make the product better - proof is in the pudding
Nice service! Looking at the free example report you included for Apple, right now it doesn't have too much details so I don't know if I'll pay $15 for it. In my opinion, it will add a lot of value if you can add some more information on "why" Apple rated the way they rated, and what are some things to do to reinforce that brand. Benchmarks of other similar companies and how they are rating in comparison will be cool too like you're already thinking. These can all be chart / visual. For example, on "boldness", 30% other "similar" companies also rated as high as you, but 48% rated much higher. etc.
Thank you, you've given me a lot to think about.
I wonder about:
1.) Allow people to choose their price from a spectrum? While that might reduce your income it might give you insight into what people are willing to pay.
2.) Lower your price to $10 for a week or two and see if your conversion rate changes, Lean Startup style.
3.) Tell customers it costs your $15 to produce the report. Ask them to pay $10 now and $5 when they see the value.
4.) Lower your price to $10 for a short period in exchange for testimonials.
5.) Offer a full or half refund for unhappy customers.
Not sure if any of those options help but hope so.
P.S. I'm working on brand/voice/image so will take a look at your site.
Thanks for taking a look!
While I LOVE the idea of pay-what-you-want (I've actually done my own nerdy research on it and find it lines up perfectly with my values: https://www.notion.so/Pay-what-you-want-c0da18e7cba64d088a7ad5f356ac3232) I set the price at a little bit of a high point because I need people to value their report. Brand voice is something agencies will charge thousands to define. I just paid a few hundred on a course on the subject. (CORE from The Futur if you're curious.) So if the brand voice report is gonna be of serious value (brands last for years, decades if done right!!) it needs to have some weight to it.
There is a $5 off coupon but it's on the signup page—you just brought to my attention I should feature it on the homepage. I'll make a note about refunds, if you thought of it, it's probably crossed others' minds.
Edit: but basically I want to keep it at $15 and add more value.
Just a suggestion to make the quiz shorter, or have an early step 1/3 of the way through that shows some kind of results. Got a little disheartened after spending some time that I was only 35% of the way through.
Good idea 🤔 I'll work on that
Diana, I hope this doesn't come across as mean. I truly thought your quiz and your feedback would be helpful. I had some expectations.
To tell you the truth after I came to write that last note, I forgot to finish the quiz. Then this morning I went through and finished it.
Got the the final results and was completely stumped. I didn't know what I was looking at. I literally only saw 1 gear icon, and 4 lock icons.
It took me at least a minute to scroll down, and figure out that those in fact were the results.
The rest of the page was not personalized, in any way. (As far as I could tell). It was a lot of questions for me to think about.. yet I didn't know the answers to.
I now realize, after a quite some time, that the lock icons were to be unlocked by payment. But the gear icon, was the answer.. the only answer to that entire quiz.. that I could see.
To me, sorry to be so blunt: It was a total waste of time.
If It had been 3 answers, with tips and tricks and personalized examples... and then unlock maybe a deeper analysis and the last 2?
Not sure what you're expecting people to get out of this. How does it change their behavior? Their business?
