How can I monetise my website, which receives over 1 Million visitors/year, better?

It's a very simple website. I give information on menu's from different restaurant chains. I monetise it through Google Adsense. Makes OK money but not what you'd expect from a website with this amount traffic.

Mostly hit and run traffic. They look at the menu prices and they move on :)

I actually tried to setup a coupon app connected to my website but I don't live in the UK so it's a bit hard to get that off the ground. Maybe I can team up with someone? :)

Any ideas / thoughts are greatly appreciated :)

    Nice website! But I see a few things that could be improved before you go all out with monetization:

    • The footer still showing "Powered by Wordpress". Are you using a free theme? Considered purchased a new theme, as it will make you look more professional, and grant you more way to customize your homepage and look. A good appearance also lead to my second point...

    • Consider other ad networks! Adsense is more like an entrance exam for a good website :) Given all ad network considered it as a condition before applying.
      You may want to look up Ezoic/ Mediavine. They are legitimate ad networks that significantly boost up your ad revenue compare to Adsense.

      Thanks for the ideas! Actually tried ezoic but didn’t make a difference for me.
      I applied to media ad network but I need to upgrade my content for that. I don’t publish any news. I was not approved to join :( that’s definitely a way to earn more. I’ve seen a lot of folks make a lot more money with Media.net.

    Some ideas:

    1. Get in touch with the restaurants and tell them that you're happy to get some online orders for them in exchange for a small fee. Figure out the mechanics of this later.

    2. Get in touch with the restaurants that don't have a website and offer to create a website for them with the added bonus of linking your traffic to their site.

    Treat the traffic as the product rather than the other way around and you'll come with even more ideas.

    Maybe you could charge those restaurants $1 to list their menus with color and pictures.

    You have to start building relationships with those chains, obviously. You are in a very good position because you have 15 chains to reach out to, and only need one of them to be willing to talk to you, and they will be pressured to strike a deal before their competitors do.

    You have to find a way to prove that you can bring them sales. Start by simply linking to their order websites, and measuring clickthrough on your end. You can already use those stats when you reach out to them. Even better if you put "order now" CTA buttons next to every single listed item, simply link them to the main order page of the chain, and measure clicks on those buttons.

    If its hit and run traffic, could you sell an app for like $.99, so people can look up the info you have on the site instead of having to go to your site for it?

    Here, your (very successful!) website model is essentially "answer a user's question".

    Problem is, once you answer it they go away. They won't click on many ads.

    My thought is that you need to manually develop a partnership with a restaurant, and have them sponsor placements. That could be much more lucrative than Google AdSense.

      Thanks! Yes, maybe look into who’s a competitor of the restaurant and ask them if they want to be shown on that page.

    First, I would move the ads up the page. Generally, they do better when they're seen more often and they pay more when they're near the top of the page. Between the masthead and entry title would be a good slot, for example.

    If you haven't, go into your AdSense account and look for underperforming categories (% of earnings vs % of impressions) and turn them off. Looks like you're already using Auto Ads, since I see a footer ad unit on mobile.

    The price table for Domino's is overflowing into the right column on desktop.

    Have you thought of monitoring promotions and putting that info on the site? I.e. "during October, SnackShack is giving away fidget spinners with every PigOut Meal" -- I don't know of a centralized place to look for that kind of info.
