How can I monetize a travel directory?
As my first serious attempt in the startup world, I’ve chosen to build a list of winery hotels. But the question is: how can I monetize it? In this post, I want to summarize all the ideas I have so far.
Affiliate booking links. I’ve already applied to the Trip (approved) and Booking (under review) affiliate programs through TravelPayouts.com. I found it while building a list of affiliate programs.
External ads on the website, but the ads should be related to the site’s niche. At least connected to the travel space, I think. Or not?
Paid promotions for winery hotels in the list (not sure if anyone will be interested until the site becomes more popular).
Affiliate links for travel-related products (insurance, flights, car rentals, etc.).
What else?

Premium directory listings: Once traffic picks up, offer hotels the option to highlight their listing with custom write-ups, featured placement, or even video intros.
Microservices for hotel owners: Many smaller boutique spots lack great visuals or websites. You could offer a side service to redesign their online presence — or, better yet, have a platform do it for you...
