how can I properly validate my business idea? Is it worth continue with this?

I’m currently in the process of developing a service to help personal trainers, and dietitians work together to track their clients progress. e.g. Progress reports, Body measurements, ‘Before and after’ photos, Workout or nutrition records , Communication, and maybe payments since I will focus mainly to fitness aligned a common goal sports or fitness.

The Approach: A mobile app that helps people track diet and workout.

Goals:

  • Develop a research-informed understanding of who, how and why wants to be more physically fit.
  • Design a product that improves the user experience of becoming more physically fit.
  • person can invite personal trainers and dietitians to their data in order to continue their objectives
  • improve workflow between personal trainers and dietitians

I was doing a primary market research via survey for a fitness and nutrition application that I am working on ; however I throw a survey against my university alumni network in order to get more conversions and idea validation to my business , but I got only 150 surveys from 3158 emails which means around 4.75% , and people who were interested and submit their email was around 1.87% (59) . 2% from 3158 emails it's pretty low conversion . what am I wrong ?

I write about a lot of stuff around Micro SaaS Ideas every week.

Here are my thoughts on this.

    • Sounds a little complex to me.
    • Most people who want to lose weight just hit the Gym and keep a watch on the food intake
    • A small percentage only hires personal trainers and dietitian who might be already having their own tools/work flow.

For example, If I am going to a personal trainer or a dietitian, it sounds odd for me to ask them to join me on this tool. If you are targeting this for high end customers, this might work but not for regular people. On the other hand, getting a sample set of this kind of target audience is not easy too.

what do you mean by getting a sample set of this kind of target audience is not easy too. ? I could think Facebook or reddit wont work in order to collect sample set

Personally, I'll never fill out my email address. I receive so much junk, I don't want more.

You'll say you will not send it, I've seen a fortune10 company selling my data—the companies who talk about ethics and all.

To validate the idea, focus on getting the data not the email. When people will trust you, they will give it to you.

Info: I visit the gym daily for weight lifting. I find your idea good. Will I pay for it? I do not hire a PT or nutritionist. Why? I do not see myself competing in any competition and I am not over weight.

I hope you find some value and niche in my reply.

of course. my idea has an issue with a target audience that can lead us to high end target audience or really super targeted and focused to sports. e..g let's say from each 100 people 1 or 2 will be working with a dietitian and a personal trainer for whatever objective he/she wants which reduces into a small percentage
