How Can I Regain Focus When My Mind is Racing a 100 Mph?

Hello everyone,

My "problem" is pretty simple. I have too many thoughts in my head all the time. This includes personal ideas, topics and tools I want to explore, and tasks at my workplace. It's recently gotten "worse".

Trying to just write down every thought didn't work, and I used to lose focus during the day because my mind would jump from one thought to the next. This also prevented me from getting behind the principles of Getting Things Done or Deep Work in a sustainable fashion.

Now I want to regain some focus and get my productivity back on track. Do you have any tips, hacks or tools for me to help me organize my thoughts and focus on the most important things at a time?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!

I don't know how much this will help you, but my go to strategy to calm the mind is always sports.

Specifically, I find that anything which you can do for 20min+ without interruptions works best. In my case that's running, surfing or climbing.

But as a "tool" running is definitely the best because it's always available, requires no practice to get started, and delivers all the benefits.

When my mind is racing I always step away from my to-do list and take a walk. It somehow helps put things into focus. You may also want to try the Pomodoro technique where you set a timer and focus on one thing for a set amount of time, then take a break and step away before diving into the next thing. This will explain it much better: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique
