How can you protect yourself from (ungrounded) lawsuits?
Bit of a question I never wanted to ask....
I just had a pretty unpleasant email thread as part of MentorCruise.com. To give you a bit of a background: In 2019 I had to permanently ban a mentor after they had multiple misconducts against the Code of Conduct and the Mentor Agreement when they contacted a mentee after a mentorship to insult them. They were terminated instantly.
Now, a few months later, they have found a Google search result that still mentioned their name pointing to the MentorCruise site (which leads to a 404). Probably something that was cached for a while. Now, they are claiming that they will sue under GDPR since the use of their name resulted in $500,000 in additional revenue (I wish, lol. MentorCruise makes $18k/year). Threatening to be in touch with lawyers to claim that revenue, or be okay with a $10,000 settlement right now.
Again, I am not worried at all, this is all very ungrounded and confusing, but anything I should do to prepare?

This sounds like a frivolous lawsuit, but it can cause you expenses even if you win the case. In Switzerland and most European jurisdictions (or maybe all), the lawsuit loser pays all the lawsuit costs. If the case falls under the Swiss jurisdiction, then they would pay it all if they pursue the lawsuit. You'd maybe have to cover only your lawyers' costs.
Anyway, it is best to have at least an initial consultation with a privacy lawyer, which in some cases may be free.
