How could we use technology to improve the environment? 🌎

A couple of days back I found myself inspired while reading this article and witnessing some interesting solutions by @shylands.

I've been grinding on this for a while now..

Imo it's a tough one. Perhaps because the domain of application is so wide. Here is something I started doing, a list of scope, could have different verticals but here is some food for thought 💭

• Production. Food, packaging, whatever. Robotics and material research can help many businesses meet some eco targets. The key is to match the cost of their current processes and provide an affordable/quick adoption option for the interested businesses.

• alternative marketplace for consumption of goods. Going green is great, but it's cumbersome. Readily available products are made, but hard to reach, buried in the noise of consumer markets. It s a logistic, curation/vetting and discovery problem that could perhaps be solved with tech.

• eco tourism platform (I'm on it, not sure I can make it though. and if it works, making it global will be a very long journey)

• Education materials. Basically producing education content, for kids and teens in particular, using ecology as the primary topic. We can teach science history geography coding and more while spreading awareness on environmental issues. Competing with other education materials currently available. Tough sector, but hey education, especially for youngsters is prime for its network effect down the road.

I find coming up with a valid business model to save the environment the most difficult ask. Maybe something only a non profit enterprise, aggregating efforts from many willing and skilled individuals could make it happen.

I think all modern technologies should be developed so as not to harm the environment.

Been thinking about creating a tool that quickly calculates your carbon footprint and gives you the opportunity to offset your emissions to be carbon neutral or even positive.

There are some footprint calculators and 'offsetters' around, but none of them make it quick and simple.

I see this in the introduction of IT technology. at least it's forest conservation
