How Dickie Bush gained 40,000 Twitter followers in less than six months

There’s never been a better time to build an engaged audience.

To show how it can be done, I interviewed Dickie Bush to learn how he gained 40,000 followers in less than six months.

Here’s are five actionable tips he shared about building a following on Twitter👇

1. Start with curation

Dickie started by sharing summaries of books and podcasts.

He found that taking five extra minutes to polish and publish his notes created “unlimited upside.”

2. Use an iterative approach

Any time Dickie had an idea for a longer thread, he would start by summarizing the idea into a single Tweet.

“If the idea resonated, I knew it was worth writing something longer. If it flopped, I saved myself hours of time.”

3. Tweet a lot

Dickie started out tweeting 30-50 times per week.

“This sounds like a lot, but the nature of Twitter's algorithm rewards this type of output.”

4. Pay attention to the market

To come up with new ideas, Dickie pays close attention to which ideas get the most engagement.

"Paying attention to comments, likes, and retweets can help you pick up on the signal of what interests your readers."

5. Treat every Tweet like a free option

“Every tweet is a free option with unlimited upside and little downside.

If you write something great, it will get shared 10 times over. But if you publish a dud, it's basically swept under the rug."

Thanks for this sharing! Could you grow just by tweeting a lot?

I think there's more to it than that. It's about turning yourself into a valuable information source that people want to tap into.
