How did you come up with the name you choose for your project?

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the initial phases of my project. The first step would be to start growing my social presence to gain momentum while build the actual application.

I just need a name, and it is a real struggle to find the right one! Me and my friends had some good ideas, but in the end we felt that it was never the right one. One crucial aspect for us is to be able to get the .com domain (without buying it from any other owner), and it seems and impossible task.

How did you decide that the name you choose was the right one? Do you have any tips or strategies to come up with original/composed/unique names?

Thanks for your help.

    I personally use: http://wordoid.com/ It generates several available .com domain names. And I choose the simplest name to pronounce, to remember. I will manage coated to give it a meaning in my project.

    In my case I put together 2 words which are relevant to the project I was working on, making sure that the result makes sense:
    Billiard + Chess = > BilliChess
    4 + moola => 4moola (reads Formula or 'for moola')
    Digital + Cheetah => DiCheetal (reads similar to digital)
    TUPLE + PUZZLE => TUPLEZZ

    Sandro go with the name you and your friend think is good enough and the domain is available. You can always change the name in future. Don't limit or delay the progress because you couldn't agree with the name.

    We come up with Epiloge by looking around what would make sense to use for an app which is focused on the work / projects you have done and allows you to build a profile based on that. Epiloge is a plural form of Epilog in German (synonym to Epilogue in English, or 'stuff you put after you are done with your article/project/book etc.).

    It also helped that epiloge.com was still available :).

    Lastly, it is actually quite easy to type in on a keyboard, which I once read an article about is pretty important to most user and it is actually easy to memorize.

    P.S. I have always loved mathematics and Epiloge is also e(pi)*log(e) ;)

    Entrepreneur spends 80% of their time to think of a name. 20% on their project.

    I did the same :D

    I like the idea of swapping letters such as y <-> i , s <-> z etc

    This is how I come up the name for Zlides

    The name for Screenshot Creator came pretty much straight from what it does, and I was lucky enough to get https://screenshotcreator.com for it as well! The name is rather verbose, but I think the straightforwardness of it and the nice domain makes up for that.

    I would say not to stress too much about the name. You definitely shouldn't let the lack of a name stop you from starting to build or validate your product, and I think many users won't care too much about your name as long as it's relatively easy to remember + pronounce. Worst case scenario, it's always possible to change your name later -- lots of great companies have done that before, so it's not a big deal.

    Every variation of the English / French / Spanish words I was considering to use for a name was taken, so I went to Latin and it worked out. It's close enough that my customers see the association to the product, and distinguishable from any related products.

    It took me 6 months to come up with, but I definitely didn't delay any progress on the product.

    Https://uppington.io originated from the basic idea this project will be checking users business flows and making sure they’re “Up” and running.
