How did you find the domain name of your product?

I always struggle to find a name for my products. It is even harder to find a domain name.

.com is almost impossible.
.io is more and more crowded as well.

I would like to know your process how you figured out your product name and then the matching URL?
What are the trending TLDs nowadays?

Have a nice day :)

This is the process I follow when naming my product - How to name our startup.

Domain is part of the naming process itself i.e. I select a name only if TLD is available e.g. hitstartup, needgap, StartupToolchain.

    Did you try .co ?
I feel like it's more popular than .io and it's a pretty good alternative to .com

It's also more "generalist" while the .io ccTLD usually applies more to SaaS products/startups

      Not yet, but interesting summary.
.co seems a good alternative indeed.
.com is almost impossible, and .io is not really good for my target group.

I just came up with a list of words that might work well together and started trying them out in domainr.com. I generally prefer to get a .com so will try to think of a word that isn’t super popular and may have a bunch of available combinations. In my case that was “div” and I settled on divjoy.com

Lean Domain Search is a fun one to spend time looking for interesting 2 word .coms https://leandomainsearch.com/

Thanks. Beside the domain search tool how do you think about possible domain names?

One thing I consider to be very important in picking a name is word of mouth sharing, that's why .coms are important to me if it is a consumer application & likely to be shared in everyday conversations. I thought new TLDs like .today were neat but I realized later that it likely confused people & made it harder to share vs a .com domain name.

Simple English words are my favorite along with a strong word with what the product is related to. Like if you make a weather app you can use "weather+{fun word}.com" or reverse that & end with weather if it makes sense.

You can try my SaaS name generator 3sName.com. Inspired by baremetrics, I've applied some common rules to inspire users.

Let me know if you have any feedback!

This is based on a joke, but who cares if it sounds good and gets you a domain? :)

People also use get<x>.com, or other short words to help with domain availability.

Ah, yeah. I used it :) You should extend it with domain availability and it would be even better.

To check domain availability, click on the name, and it will take you to Google Domains.

It's not mine, just thought it was funny :-P
