Hey, there fellow indie hackers,
Am curious about how did you find your users to use your products.
Was it from existing connections you have or some other channels?
Thank you for the reply!
My product was solving something my competitors product couldn't do. So I made a blog post "How to do X with <competitors product>". I knew people already posted this question in forums.
The conclusion of the article was that it was either very difficult to hack, or by the way, here is my product that makes it easy 😀.
Google search did the rest.
Nice, filling the market. Kind of complementary to your competitor eh
When you say blog post, do you mean some place like Medium or your own blog? Considering what will work best for me w.r.t. starting making posts.
That was my own website, but I think Medium can work too. As long as Google puts it high on their search page, that is all you need.
I found them through slacks and discords. Here's the copy I use that works extremely well:
What channels are you trying?
I was thinking about doing it but it seems most channels do not allow posts that are promotional. How did you go around that?
Hi Nathan,
I own a cold email agency, so my first users were from new connections throught cold email outreach.
I will reccomend you (if you are B2B) to try to use all your connections first.
As this connections are LIMITED, you will probably have to use cold outreach at some point.
So, using LinkedIn to reach out your ICP and then cold email them is a good way to have new users prove your product.(make sure your email is personalized and is interesting for the person you are contacting).
With that, you will be able if your product really helps your prospects (is important to hear the feedback from your new users) and what changes you should implement.
Hope this help you!
Jordi
Hey Jordi, thank you for the answer.
I will start implementing some of the strategies you recommended and let you know how it goes!
Made my own dogfood. Started sharing to medical educators on twitter and instagram to get our initial traffic boost. Took a while for SEO to get going but now social media traffic is a small fraction of our traffic.
Nicee, kinda like a curveball hey. I guess normally you would try to market dog owners, but educators are like on top of the supply chain
I think Linkedin is one of the best platforms to find your appropriate audience. Joining slack and discord servers regarding your product also helps!
yea was thinking of joining slack and discord, but then most of these channels do not allow for promotional posts...
I haven't found them yet...
Currently still screaming on Twitter, hoping to find some.
Maybe my product isn't unique enough.
I build a Notion template where people can manage their finances and figure out how much they need to retire etc.
I come from a finance/investing background, so that was my "speciality" I figured.
Maybe people aren't interested in mine, because there are already many tools out there that do similar things. Like all those FIRE related products.
I don't know...
Hey @decryptom. I had a look at your IH profile and your Twitter account. I totally get the advice-first mindset to growing an audience, but:
your profile here doesn't link to your product - although I can see you've recently joined
your Twitter bio does link to it, but only if you visit the website
I had a skim of the past week's Tweets, but didn't spot anything product-based.
I think you're missing out on opportunities not only to push the template, but also for people to quickly get a handle on who you are. If the online presence is more about building an audience for the things you do, consider a dedicated Twitter handle for the product (unless I missed it).
I'm not completely sure if the product is Decryptom, or if that's your handle on here/Twitter, or both!
Thank you very much for the feedback!
Much appreciated!
Will try to make things clearer.
damn, screaming hey "Hello, anybody out there???".
I wonder why do people choose I product over another. like I drink coke over Pepsi because of the taste
Hi NathanMaki, My Product is xperi.nz, which is a B2B solution. So the best platform is Linkedin. We used a sales navigator to get the right customer segment using their filter and started reaching out, right there.
The response rate is higher but conversion completely depends on the product value proposition that meets the customer needs.
If you are solving this for any particular product - Let me know here in a comment and I will write my thought to get started.
hey SatyendraSahani, looks like you have a very specific 3D model product to offer.
I have never used LinkedIn to reach out to customers. Would love to learn from your insights.
Happy to help. Let me know how we can connect.
We have two kinds of users on Tasquitos: freelancers and clients. We specialize in content production and digital marketing, so we needed a platform where we could find professionals with these kinds of skills.
We find out that LinkedIn is a great place to get freelancers involved in content creation and digital marketing on board. Despite just launching Tasquitos a few weeks ago, we already have more than 70 registered freelancers.
Because we value quality over quantity, LinkedIn profiles provide valuable information about an individual's background and help us connect with the right freelancers.
When it comes to LinkedIn, it works best if you only contact the targeted users instead of bombarding everyone.
You are the second person who mentioned using LinkedIn to find targeted users.
I should really start looking into this. Like how you are mixing Tasks and Mosquitos together into Tasquitos.
Do you find it difficult to attract potential clients? I meant there are several sites in this field?
We are only targeting expert content creator and digital marketer freelancers. While we do not have an issue with freelancers, getting prospects and posted projects is more challenging at this stage of our project. tasquitos.com
I have found the most success one reddit, twitter and IH. I have shared more about in this podcast episode in case you are interested.
Thanks dude, will check out your episode!
