How did you get your first 10 customers?

I just launched my product to the public and now am faced with the question we all face: How do I get my first customers? I have some vague ideas of how to go about it, but I would love to learn how you all did it.

When you started working on it, did you have any idea about who you customers are? Did you have someone particular in mind, a friend or someone you follow? Every startup is solving a problem, but it must be someone's problem. Think who these people are, then think about where you can find them. Become a part of this community, then offer your tool when somebody asks for it. Or just throw paid ads at them.

thanks for the response, my customers are copywriters, marketing professionals, and entrepreneurs. My plan is to get as many influencers in this space to become affiliate partners and then go from there. I can't go down the performance marketing route just yet due to a lack of capital.

Sounds like a great plan! But it's much easier to get your first users if you start with not-so-influential users IMHO. Then you can get their feedback, improve your product, and then show it to influencers.

I think it's more nuanced than that. If you have a waiting list for your product or any way to make people feel like they are part of a secret club, then I think it makes a lot of sense to have people with large followings be your first users.

I don't understand. Did you have a waiting list before launching? If yes, that's awesome, I wish I could build a product that people were standing in line to buy it.

Or do you plan to create a waiting list now, after the launch?

Neither, I created a partners program for influencers.
