How did you validate your idea before fully committing to it?

Before fully committing to my project, I took several steps to validate the idea to ensure it had the potential to be successful.

1. Market Research:

I started with thorough market research to understand the existing landscape. I looked at current solutions, identified their strengths and weaknesses, and sought gaps that my product could fill.

2. Identifying Target Audience:

I defined the target audience and created user personas to understand their needs, behaviors, and pain points better. This helped in shaping the idea to better cater to their needs.

3. Lean Prototyping:

I created a minimum viable product (MVP) - a simple version of the product that solved the core problem. This allowed me to test my idea in a tangible way without investing too much time or resources.

4. User Feedback:

I then shared the MVP with a small group of potential users to gather feedback. Their insights were invaluable in understanding whether the product was meeting its intended purpose and what could be improved.

5. Pitching to Investors:

I pitched the idea to a few potential investors. Their questions and concerns helped me to view the product from different perspectives and assess its commercial viability.

6. Analyzing Industry Trends:

I also kept an eye on industry trends and future projections. This helped me understand whether my product was in line with the direction the market was heading.

The validation process was a crucial step in my journey. It helped me gain confidence in my idea, understand its potential and pitfalls, and ultimately shape it into a product that meets user needs and has market demand.

Some people also recommend a landing page with a waiting list.

So I have question - what's a good conversion ration of a landing page to a signup for a waiting list?

Also do you need make sure that your results are statistically significant, i.e. 3 signups from 10 visits are not the same as 3,000 signups from 10,000 visitors?

Hey nice explanation of the lean journey! Would love to connect and hear more about your product and how did you go to build your MVP.

Was it just a figma style? Or was it a basic product? And did you bootstrap it in the end or did you raise investment?

    Great product :)

@mykhanhpham - Regarding number 1. Market Research, I'm currently in the process for my latest idea. I've identified 2-3 main competitors for my ideas and struggle to truly understand the competitors solution without subscribing to their solution.

    • How much time do you think it's worth digging deeper into a competitors product?
    • Is it worth purchasing and using for some time?
    • Is it worth even trying to sell their product to new customers (thinking consulting work)?
    • Or would it be more better to try to find competitors' customers, make contact, and gain insight (pros/cons) about the software in that avenue?
