Hi IH, we launched Docsumo, a data entry automation software 2 months back. We have so far received 50 plus organic signups and people are trying our software by uploading documents. Unfortunately, none of them are converting to paid users.
Most of our users don't upload documents after trying the product for the first time.
Do you onboard them with drip email sequence? This way you can guide them through the steps they need to do to see the value of your product. Plus, you'll be able to convert some of them through mail.
Will definitely implement this. Currently, we have just one email that goes asking about the use case and if they would like a demo call. What you said makes a lot of sense, we can send them an email about how to use the tool and different features. Thanks Jacob!
We are thinking of doing this with Taskade Pro (https://taskade.com/pricing) by starting new users with a free 14 day trial. I would recommend looking at successful freemium startups that give new users free trials, and later converting them into paid customers. Some examples that come to mind quickly are Zapier, Squarespace, etc..
We already have a free trial but the issue is that users upload one document, see the results and then never come back later. From our understanding, it might be an issue of helping the user understand how the tool works. As Jacob mentioned above, we dont have a drip in place to educate them or prompt them to use us again.
I am assuming engagement might be an issue for Taskade too? People signing up (i tried it out), creating a couple of tasks and never returning (maybe they already have another software). What specific steps do you take for
Would love to see your list of problems you mentioned in the linkedin article if you're open to it!
Maybe I can share it with you directly? Right now it is a close group of 4 founders who add/comment on problem statements. It is called Founders Lab and is inspired United Labs. Can you please send me an email on rushabh.sheth at docsumo . com, will share it with you.
done. Thank you so much!
Hi Rushabh, we're in the same position, we are offering a free service at the moment that has the most basic functionality of our product. We want to eventually build paid features into it but at the moment we are trying to just get a reliable product with lots of users we can then get input from to build those features that are requested rather than guessing what people want.
Hello @rushabhsheth, I know this post is from a couple years back, but I would really love to know, in retrospect, what has worked for you, and what you would've donne differently. Currently experiencing this issue with our SaaS. Thank you in advance!
Honestly, I wouldn't concern myself with paid subscribers at this point. The big problem you mentioned is that most users aren't uploading documents.
I'd focus my time and energy in improving registration conversions and improving onboarding / new user nurturing. If you can improve the number of registrations, you'll have more people to potentially talk to obviously and if you improve onboarding, getting people uploading those first documents, you're going to improve your chances of them converting to paid down the road.
Have you thought to allow people to upload documents without creating an account? Give them a small taste of the system without the hassle of filling out a form? (your registration form is quite demanding BTW, somewhat long and asking for things like company name / phone number [which appear to all be required?]).
Hi Josh,

Ah gotcha, retention issues. Do you have any abandonment drips in place when users fall off after that first doc? Are you doing any product announcement emails to your customer base? Could help bring them back
Re: talking to customers.... it's great to do, but you could probably improve conversions by making email and password mandatory and the rest optional. You still have the opportunity to reach out via email and then anybody that goes out of their way to fill out the optional phone call could be considered a warm lead to call on.
We will be adding drips this week for both new user signups and then retention. The drips will focus on different things - how to guides, new features announcements and best practices.
So far our website conversion rates with mandatory name, company and phone have been good. So will look into experimenting with those later down the line.
Have you spoken to or communicated with them in any way?
Yes and some of them want a native integration with accounting software. The rest of them ghost after the first meeting.
