How do I find a niche when the product is very generic?
I am working on a social media product( https://8hoot.com ) which helps people socialize in-person and strengthen their relationships.
How do I find users for this?
When I talk to people about social media, they have mixed answers. So talking to people has always been inconclusive.
"Socialize in person" is a bit abstract. For a new product it's always better to be as obvious as possible.
If Slack were to start now, it should be something like, "WhatsApp for business" rather than, "Where work happens".
The more obvious you can be about your value prop, the better it is.
This is what we want to give our users 'an opportunity to spend quality time with people that matter in your life'. Any thoughts on how to make it obvious but short.
How would you break it down?
"Plan fun activities with friends and family."

I have never done curated events , so i wouldn't be able to help with that..but i have worked with partners to create innovative websites & software - So my advice would be make the site
UNGENERIC - Create your own niche
You can do this using open source scripts , which will save you lots of money & time . Click on CHANGE VIEW in the upper right corner , then click on the far right icon in the EDITOR VIEW.

and 3. About dual personality. People like taking photos whenever they do an activity.
Facilitating the photo sharing part through our product will help drive engagement. That is why we kept two kinds of photo sharing. The first one where people can automatically share photos with friends in the photos. And the second one similar to the 'Explore' section of Snapchat/Instagram.
Perhaps organise events yourself.
Don't have any money. Straight out of college here.
Edit: This is a nice idea. I will see if I can collaborate with existing events and find a middle path

Not trying to be mean, but i opened the site, tried to figure out what it is but gave up after 10 seconds.
The only businesses that can sell generic stuff are pharmaceuticals. Get a clear picture of what do you want and who will buy it.
Can you please pinpoint a particular idea that was difficult to understand? Or was it everything.

No, meetup.com caters organized meetups. We are interested in helping people plan going out with friends for drinks on Friday evening or lunch on a Monday. In the future, we will love to develop local communities too.
