How do I get hold of my dream domain?
I have a dream domain. It's a common short word and .com, so I guess it is more or less impossible ... But still.
Today the domain only returns a server standard "The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory". So I can't see it being used in any way ... At least not as a site.
I understand that it's worth a bit and I'm prepared to pay for it. But how do I continue to get in contact with the owners? Do I just try and send random emails to addresses on the domain or are there other ways to figure out ways of contacting the owners?
My approach would be to find out if the domain has been in use in the past. Look at the wayback archive to see if there were contact details listed previously.
Sometimes there are MX or other DNS records that might give more information if the domain currently is in use by other means than a website.
I know someone who had great results by sending a personalized postcard to the owner of a 3 character ccTLD. He did send a postcard yearly for around 6 years - until the owner of the domain finally decided to sell his domain. The seller told him he was impressed by his perseverance and was certain he was the right new owner.
If you can find out the contact details, I would try to speak to them on the phone or send them an old-fashioned letter, this helps to stand out and show you are seriously interested.
You might also try a domain broker - they are also specialized in buying a domain for you.

.comdomains are desirable, but I'd personally buy a similar domain with e.g..ioextension and aim to launch your product as soon as possible 🙂.Once the product makes a sufficient income, you can then go about acquiring the dream domain with confidence knowing that it will be worth it 😃.
True true ... And I know it doesn't really matter that much. It's just something about getting the right .com domain that keeps pulling me back in over and over ... 😅
