How do you approach your potential customers?

Building an audience is hard. Getting from zero to something sometimes seems like an impossible task so, how do you usually reach your potential customers?

When posting in Indie Hackers or Reddit doesn't get you enough traction, what other things do you try?

I run a weekly javascript, tech and web development newsletter.

Though I enjoy doing it, it’s a lot of effort, and so far I haven’t seen a lot of client work that materialised because if it.

Hey mjgs, I was referring to how do you approach your customers to let them know there's a cool newsletter like yours ;)

Do you reach them by email? Twitter? Google AdWords?

Yeah I get that, my hope with the newsletter is that it gets to them via word of mouth.

One thing I did a few days ago...

          From my linkblog 31/01/2021:

List of newsletter directories - These are directories where people discover newsletters, so if like me, you have a newsletter, it’s worth adding it to these indiehackers.com

I haven’t seen much increase in traffic yet.

Apart from the newsletter, it’s some combination of:

            • posting on forums like IH
            • emailing prospects directly
            • in person meet-ups / conferences

I’ve had quite a bit of contacts from IH posts, none have turned into a business relationship though.

The thing I’m finding difficult about emails is actually finding a relevant email address to send to.

Most company websites don’t list any. I’ve sent out a lot of LinkedIn invites, corresponded with several interesting people, but finding clients...

Ymmv I’m selling professional services, but you might have better luck with a software product.
