How Do You Choose the Right Guest Post Website?

Guest posting can help with SEO, brand visibility, referral traffic, and reaching a new audience.

But finding the right website is often harder than writing the article.

I’ve seen people choose sites mainly because they have a high DA or DR. That can be misleading.

Before considering a guest post opportunity, I’d check:

  1. Relevance
Does the website actually cover your industry or target audience?

  2. Organic Traffic
Look at whether the site has genuine and consistent search traffic.

  3. Content Quality
Read a few recent articles. Is the content useful, original, and regularly updated?

  4. Audience
Would your potential customers actually read this website?

  5. Outbound Links
If every article links to unrelated businesses, it may not be the right opportunity.

  6. Editorial Quality
A good guest post should feel like a useful contribution, not an advertisement.

This is also where platforms like Guest Post Discovery can make the process easier by helping businesses discover guest posting opportunities across different niches and evaluate websites based on factors such as relevance, traffic, and authority.

The biggest lesson?

Don't choose a website just because it has a high metric. Choose it because it makes sense for your audience.

A relevant website with the right readers can be more valuable than a high-metric website that has nothing to do with your business.

How do you evaluate guest post opportunities—DA/DR, traffic, relevance, audience, or a combination of everything?

I’d evaluate the placement, not only the website.

A site can have strong traffic and relevance while putting guest posts in a section with few internal links, no rankings and almost no readers. I’d inspect recent contributed articles: are they indexed after 90 days, linked from useful category pages, ranking for anything, and still live a year later?

That could also be a useful differentiator for Guest Post Discovery. Show the historical performance of actual guest posts on each site, not just domain-level DA, DR and traffic. Otherwise buyers know the venue looks strong, but not whether contributed content gets any real distribution.
