How do you combine full-time job and side projects?

TL;DR
How not to feel ashamed if you commited more lines of code to your repo in a day than in your company's repo in a week (sometimes)?

Hello, this is my first post here.

Long story short, I taught myself coding to make my apps, not to work for someone else, but life is a b***h, and here I am — full-time senior frontend developer.

Right before covid the startup where I've been working collapsed, so I was forced to find a new job, and that new job (where I'm still working) is remote due to you know what. And this is my first remote working experience.

I was thinking that the time that I save not to commute to the office will be a good time to make something for myself, but naah, man, not so fast.

There is a days, as you all know, when you just don't feel like working. At all. Remote work makes it a lot easier. But the feel of shame for doing nothing and getting paid for that stops me from doing my projects as well. Kinda toxic shame, but I can't fight it.

I can't quit my job right now, it would be stupid. Actually, I really like it. But that is not what I really want.

Thank you, you're good audience! Just needed to write it down, but if you're faced something similar, it would be great if you share it with me.

nothing insightful to share aside from:

yes, totally understand, solidarity amigo 💖

i just try to tell myself that we do not have all the time in the world, and so you should do what's important to you in making the impact you want to make. at the end of the day, work will try to push you as far as they, to continue to make money for them. i'd rather make money and make impact for me (and the communities i serve).

all that's easier said that done though, mainly cause I do like my team and don't want to let them down as people... and then the circle goes round ~
