How do you come up with blog post content ideas?

Hey IH 👋,

I'm struggling to come up with good blog post content ideas to help with SEO for my product.

I'm working on inspectflow.io, which is a tool for Tailwind CSS developers. I know I should be writing about Tailwind CSS-related things but having a hard time deciding what type of content will be most beneficial.

How do you guys decide what kind of blog post content to put out there ?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Some questions that could identify good ideas:

    • What kind of things would your potential customers be interested in?
    • What challenges are your potential customers facing that relate to your products/services? What are they searching for
    • What challenges are you facing yourself in developing your product/service?
    • What's your business' story? Why do you exist, and do what you do? (maybe not good for SEO, but it helps people get to know your business)

Whatever you do, please don't write generic clones of your competitor's blog posts. Reading variations of the same generic advice over and over gets annoying when you're searching for more specific information.

One thing that could be useful is writing about products that are useful with tailwind, so maybe a few blog posts dedicated to getting started with next.js + tailwind or vue + tailwind?

Figuring out when people would have the biggest pain points with tailwind could be interesting too, so maybe blog posts like "Migrating from bootstrap to tailwind" where you can pitch inspectflow along the way?

thanks, @ihlurk !! I like the "migrating from bootstrap to tailwind" idea! as tailwind css is still growing in the community, it can be very valuable for readers to learn how to migrate their websites 😀

Go to a keywords tool such as google AdWords and see what people search for in your domain

    • ask your audience ;) reach out to prospects, call any long-term customers you've got and pick their brains

    • ask sales team to recall conversations with prospects: what objections come up the most? write a blog that addresses them. what questions do they ask? what systems do they compare you to?

    • reviews of your competitors: where do your competitors not do so well that you can leverage in an informative blog post? (nb: you can mention competitors respectfully)

    • related topics (not just product-focused): what else are developers interested in right now? web3? wfh hacks? other helpful tools to help teams?

    • questions section in semrush

    • product comparison pages/blogs - https://www.drift.com/drift-vs-intercom/ does this really well
