How do you decide where to travel?

Hi folks, 👋 I’ve been lurking Indie Hackers for a long time but decided to start building something in 2020. Recently I’ve been working on a project to help me figure out where I should travel next given criteria such as:

• my budget
• cost of living
• safety
• fun / interestingness / things I do
• visa situation

I’m kind of stuck between deciding if it’s better to search for countries or cities. Maybe you can help me!

When you decide to travel somewhere, what do you research first? Do you care more about the country and then find cities that interest you? Or do you just research cities?
