How do you decide which podcast to listen to?

Sometimes when I have some time to listen to a podcast (during a walk, while driving etc.), I try to find a good podcast episode from shows I am subscribed to.
But, very often I spend too much time browsing new episodes, reading descriptions to see what the episode is about, and even starting to listen to a particular episode only to see that it's not something of value to me after a few minutes.

I talked to a few people about this problem, and they also have the same issue.
That's why I am thinking about creating an app that finds the best podcast episode for you at that moment when you need it.

If you have a similar problem, how often do you encounter it and how do you solve it?

Thanks!

I usually let the amount of time i have to listen to the podcast decide the podcast for the event. This maybe because i loathe to not finish something i started.

That's the same with me. If I know that my walk will be 20 minutes I try to find something that is 15-20 min long. But this itself can be time consuming.

Does the app you use have this kind of filter, eg. "give me episodes that are 15 to 20 minutes long"?

      Thanks for the feedback!

When I drive to the office in the morning, I listen to job-related content (software engineering, startups, business) to propel my brain and get motivated to action. When I get back home in the afternoon, I often go jogging and select something about psychology, philosophy of science. While this rarely gives me applicable knowledge, it keeps me creative and helps come up with fresh ideas.

To put it another way - I balance the purpose of my content consumption.

That is a good split between topics and at specific times of day based on the purpose, I like that approach.

Do you encounter a problem of which specific show or episode you will choose to listen to for a specific purpose?
Eg. when you go jogging and want to listen to psychology-related content, do you sometimes get too many options from various shows, that it becomes hard for you to choose an episode quickly?

      Thanks for your reply!

Well, the paradox of choice is always here, but I usually figure out what I want to listen to quite quickly. That probably stems from subscribing to only 10 shows, I don't do much exploratory work :)

          Got it.
Maybe I am subscribed to too many shows. But that's because I want to be exposed to different sources of content. There are lots of shows that we may be missing that are gems of knowledge :)

Also, if you don't mind sharing, which podcast app do you use?

          I really appreciate your feedback!

I use Breaker iOS app with one exception - for Software Engineering Daily podcast, I use their official iOS app, which I co-created :)
